NEC LAUNCHES NEW BLENDED FORMAT OF ITS NEC4 PROJECT MANAGER ACCREDITATION PROGRAMME

The world’s leading construction procurement contract provider, NEC, has launched a brand-new blended format of the NEC4 Project Management Accreditation (PMA) in a bid to make NEC accreditation and qualification more accessible to the construction and engineering industries.

In contrast to the traditional training course – which consists of a four-day in-person training course – the blended training format will consist of approximately 30 hours of virtual learning and only one day of tutor led consultation which is delivered virtually.

As part of the blended course, online learning is split into 17 bite-sized modules and includes topics such as risk management, compensation events, schedule of cost components and dispute resolution. The interactive course includes case studies and tests throughout to aid knowledge retention, with participants able to track their progress within the programme.

Having published the first NEC contract – then known as the 'New Engineering Contract' – in 1993, NEC has been at the forefront of collaborative contracting, saving clients and contractors time and money by fostering a ‘spirit of mutual trust and collaboration’.

This ethos has been recognised not just in the United Kingdom, but across the world with its contracts being used in areas such as Hong Kong. South Africa, Australia, and many more.

The launch of the new NEC4 project manager accreditation course will be the first addition commemorating NEC’s 30th anniversary.

Global Head of NEC, Rekha Thawrani, said: “NEC qualifications are widely regarded as the gold standard for project management and this new blended format will allow us to make these courses and qualifications even more accessible to our global customers.

“By doing so, we hope to further spread best practice in contract management across construction and engineering, helping equip those who undertake the qualification with the skills and knowledge they need to foster collaborative approaches to achieve the best possible outcomes for their projects.”

The Project Manager Accreditation programme equips practitioners with a high-level skill set that enables them to execute their roles as NEC project leaders knowledgeably, confidently and to an internationally recognised standard.

About NEC

• In 1985 the Institution of Civil Engineers decided to lead a fundamental review of alternative contract strategies for civil engineering design and construction with the objective of identifying the need for good practice. After much discussion and consultation, this review resulted in the publication in 1991 of a consultative edition, and in 1993 of the first edition of the New Engineering Contract (NEC). Since then, in response to industry demands, further standard forms of contract have been produced, using the same principles as were used in the NEC first edition.
